Whale Shark Interaction (locally known as “Tuki” in Oslob,Cebu Province and “Butanding” in Donsol,Sorsogon Province)

Information /Tips (Whale Shark Watching)

*Whale Shark watching schedule is from 6AM to 12:30 PM only. Interaction is for 30 mins only(It will begin the time you get off the boat).Best time to visit will be weekdays for less number of tourists.

*No need prior reservations for Whale Shark Watching,just go straight to the Whale Shark Interaction Briefing Area at Brgy Tan-awan Oslob (there are signages,ask locals for directions,my nearest landmark is the Tan-awan Elementary School)

*At the Briefing Area, there will be a Registration, Dos and Don’ts orientation and of course the Payment (Whale Shark Watching Rates for Local Tourists(Swimming  with Whale Sharks–P500 ;Stay at the Boat Watching only –P300.Why will you stay at the boat anyway?); for Foreign Tourists (Swimming with Whale Sharks –P1500;stay at the Boat Watching only- Maybe 1300? Sorry Im not Sure).Inclusions (Usage of Snorkel Mask ,Life Vest , Boat and the service of your boatmen as your photographers..hehehe.) Fins for rent- P50

*If you don’t have Underwater Cameras (like us) ,no need to worry you can rent it for P500 and additional P50 for your CD Copy or you can let them transfer straight  to your USB Flash Disk. ( If you’re bringing it to Sumilon Island- beaching and snorkeling .That’s additional P300)

*Before going to the briefing area, make sure that you just bring yourself wearing your swimming outfits(dont apply any sunblock/sunscreen lotion as it may poison the whale sharks), your underwater cameras and the payment. It is unsafe to leave your non-waterproof stuff at the boat or at the briefing area.(well if you have drysack/drybag,it won’t be a problem)

*For Day Tour People, (no accommodations in Oslob/be mindful of the Whale Shark Watching Schedules –From 6AM to 1230PM only).For those with/without private transportation– it is very doable -there are shower areas beside the briefing station,if your concern regarding your valuables- there are stalls nearby that has lockers for rent (P20-P50).AGAIN, it is unsafe to leave your valuables at the briefing station which is very open to public. I read from a blog that MB's Sunrise View Resort (+639065869895/+639232971176) offers day tour package (for Shower and Storage Purposes)

*Info: Did you know that Whale Sharks stay at the sea of Oslob because they're being fed with krills (Hibe in Filipino) and locals taking advantage of it for tourism purposes which is a bad practice according to various environmentalists.
